Forced references and fluff/filler everywhere

The story reads like a fanfic- the author writes in prose occasionally, the references to places and people often feel like they were on a checklist and just thrown in to prove that this was a Dishonored book, and the sentences are full of odd and unnecessary description.

Since the same author is apparently writing the next two in this series, I can only hope he tightens up his writing style and doesn't try to shove the Dishonored brand down our throat every sentence. We bought the book because it's Dishonored; we don't need to be reminded that it is still, in fact, a Dishonored novel.

I loved the first game is played through it countless times got the mark of the outsider tattooed on my hand. This was a great read and leads well into the 2nd game. If you like dishonored read this you will not be disappointed.

It's pretty run of the mill in that aspect

The Corroded Man is a tie-in novel. It's pretty run of the mill in that aspect, really. The Corroded Man relies way too much on the original material, having copious amounts of fanservice instead of trying to get its own identity. The storyline starts off promising enough (using an interesting part of the series' lore that fans had been speculating about), but the antagonists sort of fall apart in the middle. The book barely affects the game's world, it's pretty much back to status quo at the end. I understand that they don't want people who don't care for tie-ins to be confused, but some minor effects on the world outside one minor character that would never appear again otherwise dying.

Another issue I had is that you have to suspend your disbelief a lot for some parts to work. A lot of problems in the story result from out of character incompetence or entirely unrealistic reactions to things (i.e. massive armed assault at a famous party with the Empress involved, nobody cares a day later). And as I mentioned, the antagonist stops being interesting the second his secrets are revealed.

I think Adam Christoper would do much better if he got to use the setting, but with his own characters and little to no major characters from the main series.

When purchasing an item I always search for great quality, great reviews, without putting a dent in my wallet. Item arrived promptly with Prime. I read this book to my son eight years ago, and to this day it is our favorite book. It is just such an amazing story, that its a book we will never forget. This is our third copy. The only thing I was disappointed about, is that the cover I received is not the cover pictured, and that was the original cover of the book I had read my son. Would have been nice if the seller would have advertised the product as having a different cover art. Especially for those that are buying it for sentimental reasons. However, the story is superb and I would highly recommend.

The Multiple Perspectives

Elephant Run was an exceptionally good book to read. Some parts were emotional, however others were confusing, because the dialogue didn’t contain enough detail about the cultural traditions. This story gives details of a Burmese person’s life, including the Mahouts, and other engaging Burmese cultural traditions. I enjoyed learning about the characters as they matured, and understanding the multiple perspectives of WWII. As a result of the war, the lines blurred between protagonists and antagonists. Even though this book is confusing, we liked it because it has a great ending, and can teach several lessons.

This is a young adult Novel about WWII and about a boy named Nick Freestone, who at the start of the book in 1941, is living with his mother and her Husband in London. The apartement where they are living is hit one night by bombs and destroyed. His mother, decides the situation in England is too unstable, and sends Nick to live with his father in Burma, hoping he will be safer living on the family's teak plantation. Shortly after arriving, the Japanese invade Burma and the action begins. This writer, writes to any age and I found the story fascinating and adventurous.

great undergraduate text

I assigned this book as a text for an introductory undergraduate course in popular culture because it quickly develops a solid understanding of the notion of culture, class distinctions and foundational Western cultural values and then brings all this together in a discussion of hi vs. pop culture and the nature of (pop) culture in a global, mobile society. What is more, it does this all in a remarkably short span, while still introducing foundational sociological theorists and theories, and does this in an engaging way by connecting theories to issues of everyday life. The book also introduces issues of class in a way that students don't reject--not an easy trick nowadays. Chapters 3 and 4 are also excellent examples of deductive and inductive argument, and the author uses well described and well chosen examples throughout (perhaps with the exception of his discussion of a novel at the start of the first chapter).
