Ellen DeGeneres is a generous comedian, actress, talk show host, motivational speaker and business woman. Her career started in the 80`s when she was performing her stand up comedy acts in clubs and coffee shops. Her monologue a phone call to God opened many doors for her. She was invited to the Tonight Show and she never really looked back. In 1997, she made a bold move to admit on national television that she’s a lesbian. It had a huge effect on her life and career. Her talk show, “Ellen”, suffered and the show was cancelled.

2003 saw the turning point for Ellen. She was the voice of Dory in the animation Finding Nemo. She changed the name of her show to “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and it is a huge success, on par with the Oprah Winfrey show. She is married to Portia de Rossi (2008) and is the spokes person for a few major brands and corporations. She hates bullies and gives help and money freely where needed.

A Disappointment

I was hoping for a real biography, didn't realize how short the book was until after I downloaded it. There were many typos and not alot of information. There is probably more information on Wikipedia! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!

A Very pleasantly Surprising Excellent and Honest Portrail...

I wish this book could have gone on and on... Prior to reading and then being engrossed totally as I turned each page I am now a true fan . I am taken by not just her success, but by her perseverance and the way she uses her comedy. As I discovered while reading this book Ellen involves herself in so many important yet not the run of the mill charities and causes. I love her devotion in not using other persons hard times and experiences in her jokes and other material. It is very easy to prey on others in this matter, but Ellen is very against Bullying and those who use their comedy in such a matter. For a reasonably short read I can now say that I really respect Ellen and commend her for her success which she has earned by sticking to her beliefs and maintaining her platforms. The fact that Ellen has receive many awards and the true respect of so many and the number grows. I appreciate. the career and causes she enjoys as she is so deserving. I was on the fence at the beginning and yet it did not take long during this quick and interesting read to turn me into a major fan.. I know that I have repeated this fact, but it is important to point out again. I also will make it a point to turn into her weekly talk show whenever I possibly can. I want to know more and to be entertained by this amazing woman who never gave up in her journey to get to this point in life. Kudos to her and continued success. An amazingly awesome individual!

This worked out great, I loved the case studies that were included

I took advanced patho for grad school, and I wanted some supplemental tools to help me study. This worked out great, I loved the case studies that were included, they kind of 'dumb it down' a little, make things for simple for a better understanding. I didn't want to just pass the class, I wanted to understand the information, as I will need it forever. A lot of people I know bought it and never used it, but I really enjoyed it! A in the class! =)

This book is terrible. Disorganized and poorly written. Worst.patho.text.ever. Did not help at all. I got an A in my class by NOT using this book. My condolences if you are forced to buy it as I was.

If one must read criticism on Swift it may as well be this

OK I admit it--I love Jonathan Swift--An unbelievable satirist and a very talented writer and poet. This book has some great essays about Swift, his history, and contemporaries. These essays are somewhat esoteric and scholarly but worth the effort. Especially the Blackwell essay. If you are writing a paper on Swift (or you are a sincere fan) and you want info--read this book.

Poorly written

In general, the book is very poorly written. There is no style or organization. The author did not seem to care about editing and proof-reading. He fails to explain things clearly. There are numerous typos. Here are some examples. He twice made simple arithmatic errors, for example: 2^7-2=125, on pages 412 & 416. On page 409, the author claims 'VLSMs were explained in detail in the OSPF section.' The fact is that there was a brief description of OSPF on p.361 but VLSM was not mentioned there. OSPF is described in greater detail on pp.458-474 but VLSM was not mentioned there either! The author keeps referring to that mysterious OSPF section on p.414: 'This (the longest match rule) is also discussed in the OSPF section of the book.' I cannot find where it is discussed in the 'OSPF section' on pp.458-474. And he does not really discusses what VLSM is. He simply said 'We can move the mask around the simple network ID.' (p.413) Well, how to 'move around'? He then said 'VLSM can get very, very confusing.' (p.413) I guess it is indeed confusing - to him. I am not sure if he understands it himself. On p.418 he talks about some 'contigous, common prefix'. There is simply no such thing. For example, 001 is the common prefix of 0010, 0011 and 00111 but 001 cannot be contiguous with itself. 0011 and 0010 are contiguous but they are not common. As you can see, the author has some problem with the English language. And the example he gives on p.418 is simply wrong: those addresses are not contiguous, for example, what if somebody else is using 20.127.1.33? I urge readers to consider buying some other books, like those authored by university professors, who tend to be more careful in what they are saying. (The author of this book is the 'Director of Engineering' of a company in North Carolina.)

A Kind of Network Protocol Bible.......

This book gives a detailed but consise overview of all the major protocols such as TCP/IP, Novell IPX/SPX, LLC, Apple, XNS etc. It also gives a overview of Ethernet, IEEE-802.3 and IEEE-802.5. This book is considered by many including myself to be a kind of Network Protocol Bible. It gives enough detailed information so that you can obtain a general understanding of each of the protocols examined. If a more through understanding of a particular protocol is the objective, you'll have to look elsewhere. I highly recommend this book as a Network Protocol Reference. It has been invaluable as a reference for the work that I do.
