An Honest Story

This was an amazing story and one that I won't forget for a long time. Phil Britten tells his story of the Bali Bombing with honesty and integrity. I felt for him every step of the way and can only admire him for not only surviving such an awful experience but actually living the life he wants after it. A truly inspirational man.

Surving the Bali Bombing

The story of the Bali Bombing was written so very insightful by Phil Britten that at times I could feel the heat of the flames and smell flesh and wood burning. The horror of the author realising what happened and him trying to get outside of the Sari Club in Bali must have been so fearful. He takes us through the terror he went through not knowing if he will ever see his family again. Eventually, when he got outside and looked for help...........there was no help. Eventually, he was found by Mira, Tansen and Sai. That was the beginning of the hell he went through to survive. At times, he thought he is not going to make it back to Perth Australia ever. During his struggle just to stay alive we are taken with him through this nightmare to a point where I could not keep on reading, it was so hurtful. It took a day or two to get back to reading this book. The psychological trauma Phil went through, is as bad as the physical trauma and so well written. This narrative is one hell of a read I highly recommend it to every person that feels his or her life is worth zero, as Phil Britten literally went through hell and back and shows the reader all the trauma in your life can be overcome.

Phil has written a book that is powerful and inspirational. To come back from such a devastating experience is one thing. To take a horrific experience and turn it into something that serves the world in a bigger way says a lot about Phil Britten. Definitely worth the read.

ONE OF DR. DOBSON'S MOST POPULAR BOOKS

James Clayton "Jim" Dobson, Jr. (born 1936) is a psychologist, radio broadcaster, and author, and founder in 1977 of Focus on the Family (FOTF), which he led until 2003. He currently hosts the radio program "Family Talk with Dr. James Dobson." He has written many other books, such as Dare to Discipline, Emotions Can You Trust Them, Dr. Dobson Answers Your Questions, etc.

He wrote in the second chapter of this book, "I had asked the Lord, as a special favor, to reveal His message to the Christian family... But this was God's reply, translated into my own words: 'If America is going to survive the incredible stresses and dangers it now faces, it will be because husbands and fathers again place thier families at the highest level on their system of priorities, reserving a portion of their time and energy for leadership within their homes!'" (Pg. 20-21)

He adds, "The purpose of this book, then, is to sound a call to arms... I hope to offer a redefinition of masculinity. The Judeo-Christian concept of manliness has been blurred by the Women's Liberation Movement, which has not only brought into question everything traditionally feminine, but has confused men as well." (Pg. 23)

He confides, "the Lord then gave me an enormous burden for my two children... The source of my burden derives from the awareness that a 'tug of war' is being waged for the hearts and minds of every child on earth... Satan would deceive and destroy them if given the opportunity, and they will soon have to choose the path they will take." (Pg. 51)

He says to men of wives who are homemakers, "it is about time you gave her some help... I'm referring to the provision of emotional support... of making her feel like a lady... But to be honest, many of you husbands and fathers have been thinking about something else... You've been intoxicated with your work and the ego support it provides." (Pg. 102-103) He adds, "We MUST not abandon the Biblical concept of masculinity and femininity... Not that every woman must become a mother... or even a homemaker. But those who DO must be honored and respected and supported." (Pg. 159)

International Relations Theory Today starts from the premise that international theory is going through major changes. Gone is the old sense of a self-contained discipline, united around the problems of war and peace, and dominated by a realist view of the world. International Relations Theory

This volume edited by Ken Booth and Steve Smith takes as the starting premise that the World is going through major changes and International Relations, as a discipline, can no longer afford to pretend that it is a self-contained discipline. There are twelve chapters dealing with various aspects of IR theory that need modification and addition. The themes that are covered in this collection include Political Theory, International Political Economy, The Post-Positivist Debate, Neo-realism, International Society, and the Idea of World Community.
Particular emphasis is placed on the question on "identity", "security", "levels of analysis problem", for all of which the contributors acknowledge the need to make use of other disciplines such as sociology on the question of "identity". Fred Halliday's chapter on the end of the Cold War is also eye opening in that he readily accepts IR theory's failure to predict the demise of the Soviet Union. And some of his conclusions, both analytical and theoretical, show the clear need for IR scholars to study other concepts as well. For instance, the issue of ethnic conflict is too important for IR to trust it with historians.
The chapter on the Global Environment is also very successful in applying the recently considered normative concerns in IR theory. Building on Chris Brown's International Relations Theory: New Normative Approaches (1992), applications of criteria and classification of theories are presented on the issue.
I recommend this book to graduate students of Political Science, International Relations as the arguments presented in the book assume a developed understanding of the concepts and an extensive background.

I justfinished the bookand found it pretty interesting. It delevd into things I never even htought good influence the IR scene and hold so much bearing over the future of groups, countries, and regions. Very inciteful and written decently. I recommend this book be bought.

This book is supposed to come with a workbook attached. I ordered a replacement and it also did not come with a workbook!! This workbook is my homework assignments for the class. Due to this issue I am not behind on my homework and out of $130!!
