Great introduction to the KR perspective

Dr. Markman takes the reader on a tour of the different theoretical models that cognitive science researchers have used to try to represent knowledge content and the thinking processes that operate upon it. This is a nice introduction to the knowledge representation perspective within cognitive science, and it prepares the reader for a more in-depth venture into one or more of the topics covered. Graduate students and others will have an easy time with Dr. Markman's writing style, and important work is cited throughout. If you're interested in knowledge representation, this is a good way to get started.

Weight Loss Warrior has got me Inspired to Take off the Weight and Still have a Treat Without Guilt!

This book has information that is not new to me. I have heard almost every suggestion in the book somewhere along my very long journey to slim down and keep off the pounds. The one suggestion I had not put to practice is drinking 8oz glass of water before all 6 meal/snacks. It is working so far and have taken off 2 lbs and 2 inches around my waist in 1 week. I know that isn't a lot...but it is a sign that this book does have something that may have been heard before but until you put it to practice you never know if it would work or not. Before I start my next meal/snack I feel full filling up with just 8ozs of water 5-10min before an eating session to the next without being hungry. You can have the item of desire just cut the intake by 1/2 and you still will see a weight loss. I've been cutting down on my intake and exercise 7 days a week on the treadmill wearing a stomach trainer/lotion. All together what I am able to lose will become, hopefully permanent weight loss. This book did inspire me to get started and make it work this time and hope for another 2 pounds and inches to be taken off this next week. Fingers crossed that it can become my reality! This is the wife of Scott and give this book two thumbs up to try some new techniques to get the excess weight off this time and keep it off!

This diet is pure GOLD

Don't let the cheesy cover fool you - the content is pure gold. I really don't think the cover of this book does it any justice and I nearly passed this book by just because of its cover.

Luckily I read the book.

Not only does it inspire you to do the diet, this diet just plain works. My neighbour (who gave me the book) lost 15 pounds in no time and got rid of his belly fat.

I'd give it 5 stars but I just started on it so I don't feel right to give it a raving review before I've used it for at least a month.
For now though I've been using it for a week and it's super easy and I can SEE the weight coming off (yeah!)

I just wished they'd use a nicer cover for this cool book.

This is a great book for those of us who really need to lose some weight. I really enjoyed the tips about speeding up your metabolism. We all need some help in that area, don't we? The ideas about walking and toning were especially helpful as well. Thanks for a well rounded book about weight loss!

About the Author
Karan Johar is one of the leading directors, producers and writers in the Hindi film industry. He is the son of a much-respected film producer Yash Johar, who set up Dharma Productions. Over the years, Karan has built Dharma into a powerful and flourishing entity. He began his tryst with filmdom in 1995 as an assistant to film-maker Aditya Chopra on the sets of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995). Subsequently, Karan made his debut as director with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), which went on to become a blockbuster. He has directed six major films and produced over twenty. He also began a celebrity chat show on TV in 2004, Koffee with Karan, which became a runaway hit. In 2007, he was chosen as one of 250 Global Young Leaders by the World Economic Forum.

Poonam Saxena is a journalist with Hindustan Times, where she is the editor of the Sunday magazine.

Fun and quick read

This is a quick, breezy read for anyone interested in the life and thoughts of the iconic Bollywood director. He is remarkably candid and possesses more depth than people might anticipate, if you only know him through his chat show. Sadly, that trademark humor of his is mostly missing from the book, and there is really nothing remarkable about his prose style. Oddly, in the first paragraph, he says he will NOT speak about his sexuality ... and then later in the book has an entire chapter on it, in which he never actually STATES he's gay (due to precaution over India's Section 377), but gives enough clues you can read between the lines.

There's a lot of repetition, and he'll reiterate a point he made 40 pages earlier a LOT (apparently he dictated this to his ghost writer ... and it shows). He ends the book musing over the possibility of having children (by surrogacy) so he won't be alone in his old age, which has come to pass since he finished writing. My other qualm is that he misjudges his audience - not ALL of us know Hindi, and he reverts to that language frequently, which necessitates skipping over that part or consulting Google Translator. :-( (PS His films through Dharma Productions never subtitle the songs either, which drives me CRAZY - if you're reading this KJo, FIX THAT!!!) Also, minor correction...he confuses the film 'Out of Africa' with 'The End of the Affair'. Tsk! But it's nice to get his take on his films, and his relationships (and feuds) with all the stars.

Great read if you are a 90s Bollywood fan

If you grew up watching Bollywood films of the 90s and just love films like DDLJ and K3G, you will love this book. If you like Karan Johar, Aditya Chopra or Shahrukh Khan, you will love this book. If these names and acronyms don't mean anything to you pass this one.

Felt like karan was actually sitting in front of me and talking to me .. I liked the colloquial feel of the book .. and by the end of the book I actually felt I know him now ... I have read so many autobiographies.. this one is definitely worth a read for its honesty .. I wish he writes another one after 10 years . This one was such an easy read and relatable that I finished it in 2 sittings .

This book is a collaboration of great minds and talents (heavy weights in the industry, if you like): a professor, dietitian and a chef. It's also heavy in weight - there are a lot of recipes and background information on how you go about eating certain foods and why. I'd call it a "good eating bible". There are endless tips and tricks and I buried my head in this for hours and still have a lot to learn and recipes to try out!!!
There are recipes including soups to meals with side dishes and also snacks and drinks, but the authors talk about lifestyle, research on the latest science on food and there are even success weight-loss stories in this 300-page book.

Craig Rodger
Craig Rodger is a classically trained chef who spent eight years cooking in fine-dining restaurants, including Michelin-starred establishments in his native Scotland. I think this has to be the best low carb book on the market. The way it's laid out, with the practical advice about following a nutritious LCHF diet from the dietitician first, then the sumptuous recipes, then the in-depth discussion of the science, is unique and really helps make the information digestible. LCHF works for as long as you stick to it and works best for people to whom it becomes a way of life - there's nothing about the way of life laid out in this book that seems especially difficult or unusual once you understand the reasons for it, and the recipes certainly don't give the impression that you'd be depriving yourself of anything. It's great that the science section was made as up-to-date as possible and that Grant Schofield points out those places where the evidence for newer ideas and explanations for newer observations are still incomplete. This brings the reader into the picture, instead of talking down to them.
I've been living the LCHF life for 5 years and I haven't lost weight, because I had no weight to lose. Instead I've lost acid reflux, headaches, joint pain, diarrhea, tinnitus, blurred vision, almost all colds and flus, insomnia, anxiety, and boredom. No doubt these are unbelievable claims, but they are not hard ones to test, and What The Fat? provides easy to follow instructions.

What the Fat? Great idea but recipes are in the hard copy!

Happy with the product and have already modified my eating habits. BUT there are very few recipes in the book and the the digial version suggest you buy the hard copy to get more recipes. Really can't understand why I should have to do this. I could have bought the hard copy but don't want to stockpile a bunch of paper!!

Fantastic book if you are beginner in this way of life, or 'advanced'. Its well laid out, has easy to use lists, easy to understand information with plenty of sensible case studies. If you have any interest in your own health, you must have this book. Here's to a long happy life filled with real food! Please write another book!

Young adult reads are always a delight, it takes you back to when you were young , yep I said it, so naturally you can work out I am not that young, so why read a young adult book, you might ask?

Well it's exactly as I said, it takes me back to when I was young and sadly the young adult books of today did not exist back when I was young. There was the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys all those that were fantastic reads to keep you occupied whilst secretly wishing you could get your hands on the romance books your mother hid away, or that the books would actually have situations you could relate to.

But enough about me and my old age, let's get down to business and talk Girl Online On Tour! Penny joins her rock - star boyfriend, Noah, on his European music tour. Bags packed, hair styled, accessories loaded and ready to go! Penny cannot wait to spend time with her rock-tastic boyfriend.

But between his jam( get it?!) schedule , the less than welcoming band-mates and the threatening messages from some pretty jealous fans , Penny starts to wonder if she's really cut out for this kind of life on tour. She misses home, family, friends and her blog. Soon thoughts of losing her life back home in exchange for the what might be the perfect summer start to roll around in her mind and the question lingers. Is life on tour really worth losing her true identity ?

Now on to what I thought. The best part of this read with out a doubt is the realistic look at life on tour. When I think back to the bands I drooled over I remember that I always thought how cool their lives must be. Getting to see the world, meet new people and all while doing what you love. But this read puts all of that into a new perspective , live on tour is hard, long and not at all what the outside world thinks it to be, and that's just for the band! Life as the GF of any band member is wow in many ways but mostly bleh !

It's kind of like hanging around on vacation with your parents whilst all your friends are down at the beach party your parents don't approve of , so you dwindle around , bored out of your mind listing to music.

So to wrap it up and get the heck of the stage , the following:

The book is a great read for all those wondering what life on the road is like , but it's of course fictional but for the most part I think really accurate based on some other true life similar books I have read. Penny herself was a cute and fun character, one that I felt really sorry for as I am sure you will too.

I recommend this read for anyone and everyone that would like to go back to their younger years and visit a dream ( go ahead and admit it, you wanted to be on tour with your music hero) but be warned it will shatter the perfect illusion you had , and in that case if you prefer to let the dream stay in tack I won't recommend the read.

At some points i was crying, Some points i was laughing, but in the end im still crying that i cant come home from school and be excited to read this. Its an amazing book! I love both of your books just the same and i think there needs to be one more book please im so addicted!
